I now have a gross of these bins in a rainbow of colors and use them to
store absolutely everything from holiday decorations to toys to seasonal
clothes to the piles of junk that used to fill my house... and I've
never been more organized in my life. I can zip into offsite storage and
grab exactly what I need without climbing over cardboard and rifling
through boxes ever again.
While our house was being fumigated we
put everything we didn't want gassed in a temporary storage unit... with
a leaky roof. And of course it rained. For two days. Let's just say,
everything packed in Sterilite bins was perfectly preserved.
If
only they offered custom color combos from their website... I'd buy them
by the pallet. Oh the possibilities! Lavender and blue for easter? Red
and pink for valentine's day!? Red, white and blue for my lawn flags and
bunting?!!!
Unsafe storage; humidity & bugs can easily get in. The lids don't
latch well, and there's a huge amount of play between the lid & the
long side of the box. I have larger Sterilites which are great for old
books & LP records; tight latch, tight lid. These smaller ones
measure big enough for LPs, so I figured they would do too. Wrong.
Plastic bits project downward from the lid, so storing LPs vertically
takes some juggling, & you can't store nearly as many as the size of
the box implies. And with the lid flopping loose on the long side of
the box, you always worry about vermin or mildew. We won't send these
boxes back, because it's not worth the trouble and we can probably find
some trivial use for them, but they are a major failure as far as
delivering secure storage.
