Wagner Power Products 503008 HT 1000 1,200-Watt Heat Gun

I have a variety of hobbies, and in doing those hobbies the need for a heatgun is always popping up. I might need one twice a year so, I didn't want to spend a lot, but also didn't want the cheapest. I settled on this one due to the reviews/price, and it did not disappoint. The gun has two heat settings, but even the low gets crazy hot if you keep it in one place. The key to using these is changing the distance between the gun and your project to adjust the heat applied, and you always keep it moving. I was using it to strip the old cheap finish from an old guitar, and it worked great for that purpose. Just be sure to keep the gun moving so that the finish doesn't bubble up and burn.

I'm a sugar cookie decorator and I use this gun to help seal some of the icing layers and decorations. I think it has done a good job of speeding up the wait time between different layers of icing. Also, I haven't noticed it making the icing discolored or splotchy.

However, be careful that you don't put it on the highest level for too long over your icing! It will make it VERY HARD in just a little bit of time. I only use it on the lower setting for about 30 seconds while keeping it constantly moving and it doesn't change the texture of anything. 

This is a fantastic tool everyone should have in their tool box. The ability to heat up metal, plastic and other items to a thousand degrees can be very useful. From getting stuck parts to unstock, or to repair bent or malformed plastic, this thing is great. More so because the price is so low. And with two settings you have a lot of options. I use it for gunsmithing but also forming kydex. Great buy even if you only need it once. But once you have it you will use it many more times.

Irwin Industrial Tools 2078300 8-Inch Self-Adjusting Wire Stripper with ProTouch Grips

If you do any kind of wiring, whether installing a ceiling light in your house or tinkering with tiny circuit boards, you need this. I had one for years, and finally managed to break it. Thinking I could do without, I used various cheap wire strippers until I finally couldn't take it any more, and then ordered a new one of these - or at least I thought I did. Look closely before you buy one. There's a very similar-looking product that claims to be "automatic," but it's not. Instead, it has a series of grooves for different wire sizes, so you have to know what size wire you're stripping, and fit it into the right groove. That one is a piece of junk.

This tool is the one you want. The jaws on this one automatically adjust to the wire size, grip the insulation, cut just down to the wire, and then yank the insulation off, in one smooth motion. You don't need to know what size wire you have.

In fact, you don't even need to see the wire. I just finished connecting a new light circuit, and part of the job required splicing some wiring in a very cramped space between some ductwork and the floor joists. I could either see the wires or fit my hands in to touch them - not both. Reaching in with this tool, I fed each wire into the jaws, felt that it was in the correct position, then squeezed the handles. When I pulled my hands out and took a look, there were my perfectly-stripped wires waiting to be spliced.

Cedar Green B222 Aromatic Cedar Hang-ups - 18 Piece

I began using cedar blocks when a couple of my favorite sweaters got moth holes. Since I started using cedar blocks this has not happened again. I was so pleased with the cedar blocks Cedar Green C313 Aromatic Cedar Scent Blocks, 48-Piece that I tried hanging them in the closet attached with a ribbon, but that did not work really well. They were either on the way or fell to the floor. When I discovered Cedar Hang-ups my unsuccessful ribbon solution was replaced. Cedar hang-ups really work. They are not in the way, can be easily moved on the closet rod, they smell great, and I have not lost anything to a moth since I began using them. In New Orleans we have an annual flying termite infestation every spring. I live in a converted warehouse that has all of the crannies and nooks you'd expect in a 100+ year old building, so bugs can find their way in pretty easily. I'm reluctant to use insectiside around my dog and cat, so I put two of these cedar hang-ups on each window frame (in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathrooms, et al.) and it could not have worked better. My wife was so happily surprised that something so simple would prove so effective. I am so glad I got these. Many of the edges on my set were rough and splintering, requiring sanding to prevent them from snagging my clothes. I don't think customers should be expected to buy sand paper and sand down these hang-ups before using them the first time, but if that is the case, the company should at least provide the sand paper. The cedar scent is comparatively mild, but it is present. I have purchased other name brand cedar block products in the past with a stronger scent initially. However, I could smell the cedar scent from these hang-ups even before I opened the box they were shipped in, so I wouldn't necessarily call the scent weak, either. Maxxima MLN-10 LED Night Light with Sensor (Pack of 4)

My parents are coming to stay in a few days time, and I needed some night light's to light up the basement apartment where they will be staying during their visit. I didn't expect too much from these night lights, as I considered the cost of them to be cheap, yet I was pleasantly surprised.

Although I felt the lights appeared duller than I had expected, they do a great job at illuminating the apartment and allow enough light to see by so that one can find their way around. Although the light is a whiteish-blue color, it is thankfully not overly blue. Being able to direct the light's direction is a useful idea, and allowed a night light to be set up in the actual bedroom without being too obstructive to sleeping.

I like these; they might not illuminate a huge area of space, but I managed to place one in the bedroom, one in the hallway, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. My parents can wander around the basement apartment all they like, and won't have to worry about bumping into furniture or fumbling to find things in the dark.

I got these nightlights today. Junk. Only one of the four works. The other three look like they have been used - red marks on one, scuff marks on the other two. Who sells crap like this? This is the worst product I have ever bought through Amazon. Shame on you and them for selling junk like this.

Wow! This light is AWESOME! For as small as it is, it is SUPER BRIGHT. I only need to use it on low setting for normal use. SOS doesn't exists, just slow strobe. Maybe mine is defective? I don't know. I had a choice between this one or another brand rated the same. I chose this for the SOS strobe. To bad is doesn't work. It lists a free holster, but not sure what the holster is, or where to find it. It only has the clip on the side, as pictured. High will light up a small field. Compared to the high beam of a car, it's brighter than most standard high beams for lighting up a field. But up closer, it's more focused, so a car high beam, on the side of the garage door is spread out more, and more yellow. I have a 10,000,000 candle power spot light that is huge, and this out performs it. Of course, the big light is just a car headlight in a large portable device. This fits in my pocket, and is brighter. Although, the instructions do say not to use it on high for prolonged amounts of time. It does get a bit hot after a while on high. I purchased the 18650 3000 mAh batteries for this. I would love to take this camping.

I am so impressed with this flashlight. I did my research and found that this was a good durable piece of equipment. I ordered it and was suprised by its quality and construction. It is super bright. I have always owned Mag-lights in the past but this dosnt hold a candle to it (get the pun...) It has 4 settings, bright,dim,strobe and SOS. It works well. The only down fall it takes a special 3.7 volt battery that you just cant walk into your local store and purchase.

Liftmaster 371LM 315MHz Garage Door Remote(See Tech. Details Below)

The three Liftmaster 371 LM 315 HZ Garage Door Openers that I purchased worked as advertized. No problems with functionality. My problem is that I ordered three at one time and was charged the full shipping and handling charges for each one individually. They were shipped together in one box as one would expect. So the actual price including the shipping and handling was much higher than what I expected. I feel I was ripped off, although somewhat subtly.

I emailed and asked to confirm proper garage door openner. I purchase two that ended up being the wrong ones, they said that the color of the button on the unit mattered. I thought the serial # and other numbers would get me the correct unit only to find they want me to order again and pay in advance then refund my new remotes if they get them back in original condition with a 25% restocking fee. I would not use this company again until they make this right. I don't recommend them, find a company that offers a better return policy and faster response.

Culligan WSH-C125 Wall-Mount 10,000 Gallon Capacity Filtered Showerhead, Chrome Finish

I was saving up to buy the Aquasana showerhead filter, trying to rationalize spending $80 on a product just because our water smells a little funky. I researched dillegently about all of my shower-filter options, read all the Amazon and other sites reviews I could find, and while there was a lot of hype about Aquasana, the real user reviews made me question it's durability, value, and also, it wasn't very pretty.

Then I discovered this Culligan shower filter. It's a little bigger than my regular showerhead, but that's more the massage settings than the filtration unit. It's shiny chrome and looks really nice in my shower. It installed in about 3 minutes and has worked beautifully for the last 2 months.

My main reason for buying this was bad smelling water. This filter got rid of all the odors in our tap water (the metallic tap water smell and the super nasty hydrogen sulfide/rotten egg smell that only got worse the hotter the water was). But it's also improved my skin and hair condition. All this time I had thought I had dry skin and damaged hair. But not anymore. I never would have thought to blame the water!

The 5 massage settings are nice, but I find I like the regular spray shower setting. I was worried that a filter may impact my water pressure, but it actually seems to have improved. The highest-pressure setting on this is almost too much pressure, but it might be good for a theraputic massage.

This was a fabulous find for only ~$30. The quality of the showerhead alone would be worth that, even without the added bonus of filtering out all the yucky stuff.

Coleman Cable 02309 16/3 Vinyl Outdoor Extension Cord, Orange, 100-Feet

I plugged my surge protector into this extension cord after running it across my basement to one of our house's few grounded outlets. It's good for computers to be grounded to prevent static damage to components. My Belkin surge protector says the cord is grounded, and it's always been right. My computer is on 24/7 and I've never had a power interruption in the months I've owned this cord.

There seems to be a lot of hubbub about this cord within other people's product reviews on here. The one that I got is probably about 100 feet long (I didn't measure), and it does a good job of being an extension cord. Orange is good to see in my lawn so I don't run it over with the electric mower and shred it (does that happen? I've been worried about that). Anyways, it's an extension cord. It seems to supply up to the 10 amps that it says it does. The grass on my lawn isn't as long as it would be without the cord.

This cord lives in my garage. I use it primarily to reach the front of the house to power an electric mower and a trimmer roughly once a week. I have already hit it with the trimmer, but it sustained no damage. It should also be suitable for running power to holiday lights this winter. If a light-duty cord is what you need, this one offers good quality and value. I didn't want to pay a lot but I wanted a good product, and this purchase met my expectations.

Mirka 23-615-AP Gold 5-Inch 8-Hole Dustless Hook-and-Loop Sanding Disks, 10 Each of 5 Grits

Mirka paper is not only the quality choice; it is also a bargain at Amazon prices. I had previously purchased a full box of Mirka paper for my 6" sander, in the most popular grades. Have since done a lot of sanding with it. This brand of sandpaper is great. It is aluminum oxide which lasts and lasts. Additionally the backing pad is made from thick material, so it holds up well, and won't bugger the edges of your sander.
I had a body shop for twenty years, and came to realize the advantage of quality sandpaper. The cheap stuff does not hold up. You will go through a zillion sheets of paper, and will actually cost you more because of it. The Mirka paper lasts so long, that I wind up with a used stack. By the time it is to change to a different grit, the existing piece isn't worn out yet, so I keep them.
I went into Home Depot and checked out the Norton paper, I wasn't impressed. It also costs less per box, but they only give you 25 sheets instead of 50 like these Mirka boxes. So you get twice as many sheets here for only half again as much money. Not only is it a bargain up front, then the paper lasts a lot longer, not to mention the superior job it produces. You can't beat that.

Lasko 4000 Air Stik Ultra-Slim Oscillating Fan

For 2 years I have worked in an office where war has been fought over the ambient temperature. Some like it cool and some like it very hot. I am a "like it cool" dude.

Now that spring is here, the war is back on this soldier is sick of fighting. I decided to buy a fan, but (darn) which one? It seems there are millions out there. After reading reviews, I decided to purchase this fan.

It arrived and I was initially put-off by its small size. Don't let the small size fool you. This fan, on the slow speed, moves ample air and is whisper quiet. It does the job and does it well. Now I am not as warm and am uber content not being caught up in the temperature battles.

I do not recommend this Lasko if you sleep with a fan at night. It has 2 speeds and is too quiet at the lowest speed to provide the "white noise" that us urban dwellers around the world have come to rely on.

The Lasko 4000 isn't a powerhouse of a fan, but its space saving design and reasonable price make for a good value nonetheless. On high, the fan has an effective range of about 3-4 feet. Thus, it's significantly weaker than other similarly priced desk fans. Don't buy this if you're looking for raw power.

However, the Lasko 4000 shines in other areas. It has a tiny 3"x4" footprint, making it easy to find a home on even the most crowded desk. Likewise, the air stream is quite focused, so you won't have to pin down every loose paper on your desk every time you turn it on. It's very quiet on low or high. And oscillation is a feature you won't find on many fans with a footprint this small.

In general, the Lasko 4000 won't cool down an entire room, but it's an ideal desk/cubicle fan for home or office. I've been fairly pleased with it thus far, and the Lasko brand-name means it will probably have a long lifespan.

Streamlight 66118 Stylus Pro Black LED Pen Flashlight with Holster

I remain amazed at the progress in portable lighting technology. Recent advancements in LED quality and brightness levels surpasses past iterations and as of May 2008 this seems to be the best light in this size and form factor. The Stylus Pro is an improvement over the thinner but not-as-bright regular Stylus, also a great little light (and reviewed also in the video). The SP not only has a brighter "high flux" LED but its push button switch makes it one hand operable, a big advantage pretty much in all situations. For these features it is only slightly thicker than the regular Stylus but still very lightweight (only a svelte 1.8 oz). The output is also electronically controlled meaning its brightness will be more consistent and even through the life of the batteries. Other features including materials, battery types, and their clips are covered in the video. Both the Stylus and the Stylus Pro are super quality lights that feature lightweight, small size, and good durability. In the world of small lights the Stylus Pro is currently reigning supreme.

I'm a veterinarian and have been looking for a penlight that won't break when dropped and won't stop working when wet. I've FINALLY found the perfect light! Not only is this thing shockproof and waterproof, but it also puts out brighter light from a pen light than I've ever seen in my life. I finally can get accurate pupillary light reflexes from a pen light! I've recommended this to many veterinarians, and all have given rave reviews! This little flashlight is amazing!

Sterilite 66-Quart See-Through Storage Box with Latching Lid, Set of 4

I now have a gross of these bins in a rainbow of colors and use them to store absolutely everything from holiday decorations to toys to seasonal clothes to the piles of junk that used to fill my house... and I've never been more organized in my life. I can zip into offsite storage and grab exactly what I need without climbing over cardboard and rifling through boxes ever again.

While our house was being fumigated we put everything we didn't want gassed in a temporary storage unit... with a leaky roof. And of course it rained. For two days. Let's just say, everything packed in Sterilite bins was perfectly preserved.

If only they offered custom color combos from their website... I'd buy them by the pallet. Oh the possibilities! Lavender and blue for easter? Red and pink for valentine's day!? Red, white and blue for my lawn flags and bunting?!!!

Unsafe storage; humidity & bugs can easily get in. The lids don't latch well, and there's a huge amount of play between the lid & the long side of the box. I have larger Sterilites which are great for old books & LP records; tight latch, tight lid. These smaller ones measure big enough for LPs, so I figured they would do too. Wrong. Plastic bits project downward from the lid, so storing LPs vertically takes some juggling, & you can't store nearly as many as the size of the box implies. And with the lid flopping loose on the long side of the box, you always worry about vermin or mildew. We won't send these boxes back, because it's not worth the trouble and we can probably find some trivial use for them, but they are a major failure as far as delivering secure storage.
