I'm a musician who is also studying to become a Recording/Live Sound
engineer, so hearing protection for me is a must. When I used to go to
shows and other events where the volume level is excessive, my ears
generally rang for a while afterwards, sometimes for as much as 3 days
if it was a rock concert (thinking I have a mild form of tinnitus). I
always hated wearing normal earplugs at shows because it just made the
music sound terrible! A couple of my friends in the same degree program
as myself purchased these earplugs, and I thought I'd do the same.
Overall,
these earplugs work great, especially for the low price they're offered
at. They work just as advertised, attenuating frequencies much more
evenly than normal earplugs. I actually enjoy listening to live music
with these in my ears, and often times they actually make the sound
better! Especially if there's anything a little harsh too hot in the
mix, like the snare drum or the highs on the vocals.
I also
really like the little pouch they come with so you can put them on your
keychain. This way, I never forget them when I go to shows, and I have
them everywhere I go if things get a little too loud for comfort! Always
in my pocket! Not too bulky either! I wear skinny jeans and they still
fit in my pocket fine.
You may be tempted to pull them partially
out of your ears, or only put them partially in to try and hear more
highs. But instead you really just need to shove them further in your
ears, pretty much as far as they'll go, to get the best sound.
The
only complaints I have is that when you shove them in real far,
sometimes it kind of hurts, but only slightly. Also, it can tickle your
ear pretty badly, making it all itchy and stuff. But I'd be willing to
bet that any other similar earplugs from any company would do the same
thing.
Overall, if you want to start saving your hearing without
sacrificing sound quality/clarity and lots of money, buy these earplugs!
