I bought six of these to water my large potted plants while we are gone
in the summer. Once receiving them, I immediately tried them. I filled
them with water, made the hole in the dirt first with something else,
and inserted the globes. Water started leaving the globes quickly and
within 10-15 minutes, the globes were empty! I was hoping water would
stay in the globes long enough to water the plants for at least one
week, and they were empty. I soon realized that your plants have to be
saturated with water FIRST, then as the dirt around the globes dries,
water is released from the globe. Another thing, dirt does get trapped
in the stem sometimes. Overall, just make sure that your plants are
watered very well before you insert the globes, then they will slowly
release the water the plant needs. I've had comments on how pretty they
are in the plants also. I think they do the job without having to ask
your neighbor to come water your plants while you're gone.
I
ordered these to water my plant in the office while I'm away during the
weekends. I needed to use both of them to sufficiently water my large
(3ft.) peace lily. I did drop one of them and it broke, so I'm finding
that just using one is not enough to keep the whole plant happy. I'm
looking for alternatives that are maybe not so breakable, since I'm a
bit of a klutz! They are kind of hard to fill and when dirt gets stuck
in the end it takes some work to get it out. If I knew I wouldn't break
it, I would probably order them again because they work okay and look
pretty in the plant.
I followed the directions exactly, making a
smaller diameter hole, filling the bulb slowly at an angle, and being
sure that the bulb did not tilt at all once I inserted it into the soil.
The bulb works like a charm. The plant I used it on (philodendron) was
also a gift from another neighbor. I quit buying plants because I
invariably killed all of them eventually by either overwatering,
underwatering or plain neglect. The ones I have are all gifts and I feel
so badly when they die that I nurse them back to health only to watch
them die again.
Not only does the Aqua Bulb work, it works very
well. My neighbor gave me one and I almost laughed in her face but I
accepted it and thought why not. I was very skeptical and thought it was
another useless TV gimmick. I've been had so many times by those
TV-offer products, I assume all of them are trash. The Aqua Bulb works. I
don't know how it works because it's been at least 3 weeks since I
began using it and it's nowhere near empty. I even wonder if that's good
or not, but my plant is thriving so I'm here to purchase more. I'm
sold.

GE MSWF Refrigerator Water Filter, 1 Pack
All three replacement filters from FiltersFast exhibit issues. Poor
water flow and squeal from inside the fridge. Replaced new filter with
old one and all is fine. New filters are different on the insert - old
ones had one large hole with multiple tiny holes around it. New ones
have one large hole and two slotted holes on each side. All three new
ones are lousy. Takes 45-60 seconds to fill a standard 8oz glass. Not
acceptable. Called GE directly who said no change has been made to
product line. Bought two more in town, one from Sears, another from HH
Gregg. Both have the same design as the new ones from FiltersFast and
are also lousy.
I have resorted to using the filter plug in order to have decent water flow. The filter design has obviously changed and either GE is not admitting to it or their representatives are ignorant to the change.
I hate my fridge now and currently using a Brita pitcher filter on the counter top. Neither Filtersfast, Sears or HH Gregg will accept a return. I'm now a proud owner of six new filters, over $200 in cost, that won't work worth a flip. Oh, and those of you who want to repeat what GE told me over the phone - yes, both the old filter with the tiny holes and the bypass plug work fine. There is NO clog in the water line. It's the lousy new filters that GE is pushing to all the vendors.
I live in the Tucson, AZ area and our water is very hard. I test my water regularly out of the tap and it shows 240. I test the water out of my R/O system and it tests at 22. The water coming out of my ref with the GE filter which comes from the R/0 system is 20. I have the cleanest water in our neighborhood. The only issue I had was the GE filter took a couple of months to get back to "normal" testing range. When I fist installed it, the water tested at 40. Now that it's back to "normal" I'm pleased. Also the install was easy - reading the simple directions took longer that the install. You just twist off the old one and twist on the new one and then run about 5 gallons through the system.

Kidde FA110 Multi Purpose Fire Extinguisher 1A10BC
I bought two of these fire extinguishers from Home Depot in 1999. In
2006 my toaster oven flamed up and I quickly pulled out the fire
extinguisher and it promptly stopped the fire. Then, just yesterday my
toaster oven flamed up again and this time I didn't notice for some time
and the flames were pretty bad though still concealed within the
toaster. I pulled out the second fire extinguisher and it put out the
fire right away. The only downside is that the fire extinguisher can be
used only once and the material it spews out is in dust form and it goes
all over the place - but that's not so bad considering it stops fires!
I'm getting a couple of more of these. It's impressive that they sat
unused for almost 10 years and still worked fine in an emergency. I'm
also getting rid of the old toaster over :)
When I bought this fire extinguisher from Amazon I hoped we would never need to use it. Wrong! We had a fire in the living room after my kids left a candle burning. The wood end table caught fire and the FA110 worked great. When the fire started I ran for the fire extinguisher and my wife called the fire department. We have the fire out by the time they arrived. The fireman said if I had not had the Kidde FA110 we would have had a large fire. He told me fires double in size every 45 seconds.
If you do not have one of these get it.
Just a warning - I have no idea whether this product works or not, and hopefully I never need to find out! But when the fire extinguisher arrived it had discharged itself inside the box and was completely empty. I contacted Amazon customer service who advised I needed to get a replacement under the warranty from the manufacturer. At first things when went well and I was promised a replacement extinguisher. 2 months and several unreturned emails later, still no exinguisher and no comment from Kidde on where it might. I've even contacted their customer service manager directly and have not received a response. A lot of work for a cheap fire extinguisher - I should have just gone to the hardware store!

First Alert CO615 Carbon Monoxide Plug-In Alarm
I got these two days ago and they alarmed the first night. I opened the
windows and deduced that it was probably my tankless water heater which
was recently installed and failed inspection. It is scheduled to be
brought up to code this week.
To prove my theory I made sure the central heat was off for a day and we hadn't used the clothes dryer for a few days and I put one of these detectors in the laundry room where the tankless water heater is installed. We have one of those large jacuzzi style baths in the master bathroom (hence the need to have the tankless) and we took a bath last night. When we were done the alarm was going off. I had done some minimal research before doing this test and knew that too high of a level (12,800 ppm) can kill you instantly after just 2 or 3 breaths. I had read that 400+ can be lethal. Wikipedia states 800 ppm will cause dizziness, nausea, and convulsions within 45 min and you will be insensible within 2 hours and 1600 ppm can kill you in 2 hours. So I went downstairs to see what the reading was.
I held my breath and went in. 875ppm is what it read. I called 911 and the firemen came.
My wife, 2 year old, and 2 month old were upstairs and in a room with the windows wide open. They came in and took their readings. They said they are not allowed to work in an environment where the levels are above 30 ppm without respirators. The windows had been open for 15 minutes and they were still getting readings over 70.
Later, we compared what their professional monitor said to what the my 2nd First Alert Carbon monoxide detector was reading (remember I bought two of these). Their reading matched exactly what this unit displayed. So you can trust these devices.
Please trust your device. Thats what you bought it for. Call 911. Open windows or get out of there. The long term affects of Carbon Monoxide exposure can cause heart problems, learning disabilities, and many other terrible things. I am now worried about what this has been doing to my family over the last 4 months since the water heater was installed. Like I said I have a 2 month old.
I ordered and received this item timely from Amazon. The product was well packaged and the directions for use were easy to follow. The product is nicely constructed, easy to use, and seems to work well. I like the fact I can push one of the buttons located on the front of the unit to see if the unit has picked up any CO levels from the area it is located. It is designed to plug into a wall electrical outlet and also has a battery backup. The unit is small and appears out of the way when it is plugged in and being used. So far, the two units I bought are working well so I give this product a rating of 5 stars.
Update: Jan. 14, 2011 - I have now owned two of these devices for over two years and each one is still working just fine. I have had to replace the back up battery on each just once a year, which is fairly standard, so the devices seem to be well built and last.

LEDwholesalers 395 nM 51 UV Ultraviolet LED flashlight Blacklight 3 AA, 7202UV395
I bought this so that I could see if there was any stains left in the carpet due to my dogs urinating on it. I have a steam-vac carpet cleaner and wanted to make sure it was doing its job.
There are a bunch of different UV / black-light flashlights out there, but this one seemed to have the most LED's for the price. And it takes AA batteries instead of AAA's. So it should be a lot brighter, and the batteries should last longer than other flashlights out there.
My results: The flashlight itself is very solid. It's made of metal. It is very bright and does exactly what I want. The beam is focused well. It showed me stains in the carpeting and the couch that I didn't know were there. It's so bright that I didn't have to even make the room completely dark. In fact, you can use this with your house's lights on, although it won't work as well.
So it does show me how well my steam-vac carpet cleaner works. I expected that. What surprised me was that it also shows me how well my regular vacuum cleaner works. I see little dots of bright stuff all over my carpet. That's the dirt and lint that the vacuum cleaner missed. Time to get a better vacuum cleaner.
The only negative thing I'll say about it is that once you get this thing, you're going to go from room to room in your place looking at everything. And you're going to find everything! It will surprise you. In the end, you may become a lot less happy with your carpeting and furniture, to the point of wanting to go out and buy new ones. This inexpensive little flashlight "toy" may end up costing you thousands of dollars.
This is a simple blacklight (UV) flashlight which I use for hunting scorpions to show and educate other people. It's very bright for only three batteries and I have been using it for several weeks without incident. Its small enough to fit in a cargo pocket, but a bit too big for just a normal jean pocket. It does not have a way to adjust intensity or beam width, just a simple on or off switch. but, I haven't found the need for anything more, anyway. It's very sturdy. I've been able to find several scorpions with my friends using this flashlight.
I purchased this light in order to see if my cats have been doing any business around the house I wasn't aware of. This isn't a toy or a gimmick light, it has a very sturdy and well made housing very similar to a Mag Light, and it's just the right size to fit in your hand. I had no issues getting the batteries to fit whatsoever, and as soon as I turned the light on I could immediately spot anything out of place on my carpet. Luckily I didn't find much, but there were a couple of areas I missed. After cleaning them, they no longer glow, so I know I got everything cleaned up. By the way, brace yourself if you plan on shining this thing around your bathroom.
It's pretty amazing actually... I can even see chip crumbs and some small bits of lint and such that my vacuum missed with this thing. No way could I pick them out with the light on, but turn the lights out, fire this thing up, and crumbs stick out like a sore thumb.
It's also great for charging glow in the dark objects. Flashing it on my watch for a half second makes the hands glow bright enough I could almost navigate by them.
All in all I'm very satisfied with this light. It's the right size, quite bright, and illuminates a large area. As for the UV capabilities, what can I say? It works just like a blacklight.

P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor
I absolutely love this product, it's one of the best devices I've aquired in a long time. When I purchased it a few years ago, I paid close to $50, but it was worth every penny. Some of my joy from using the device simply comes from the fact that I'm curious how much energy the products in my home use (I now know, for instance, that my cable box uses 15W of energy whether it is on or off, at that it wastes a little more than 10 kilowatt hours each month, or that my fridge uses 350W when on, or that my laptop only uses 40W - a useful fact to know when I went to buy an inverter to use it in my car), but it can also be used to save energy (I found that hitting the switch on the surge supressors of my computers at night can save me almost $5 a month off my electric bill). Additionally, it's interesting to find out where all the power you use goes, and even what members of the family use the most electricity (you could do a side by side comparason of a child's computer with yours).
Even though I've had my Kill-A-Watt for years, I still take it out regularly to test any new equipment in my home. I know my cell phone charger uses 4 W, my regular battery charger 5 W, and my IC3 15 minute battery charger 73 W.
Surely most will not have as much fun with this unit as I do, but it can be both practical and enjoyable for people such as myself or those looking to save some money off their electric bill. It's also an asset for anyone off-grid, who is generating their power with solar energy or by other renewable means.
If you are a "Miser," this device will be your best friend. I bought the "Kill-A-Watt" because I suspected that our old Fridge was shooting up the electric bill. I plugged the Fridge into the meter and left it for 3 days. I was very surprised to find out the the fridge was only burning about 1.5 KWH (Kilowatt Hours) per day, which is about what it should.
Now I am going around the house and plugging other appliances in for a couple days. The real shocker was that my "economical" eMachines PC along with a CRT monitor was using more energy than the fridge! The computer was burning almost 2 KWH per day. I made changes to the energy saver software in Windows, so that the monitor automatically shuts off in 10 minutes and the computer hibernates in 1 hour. This has brought the daily consumption down to 1 KWH.
For those of you who don't understand KWH, its a measurement of electric usage by the power company. To be simple, using a KWH is about .08¢ in our area. So, if you save 1 KWH per day, you save .08¢ After a month's time, it's about $2.48. After a year it's about $30 bucks. The savings add up over time.
With the Kill-A-Watt, I've found out lots of interesting things:
My Mac Mini with a LCD monitor uses about 1/2 the power of my eMachines Tower with CRT. That's 70 Watts vs. 140 Watts.
My Electric Blanket which I though was "economical" pulls 120 Watts during operation. It actually uses 1 KWH per day. I even found out that the blanket burns 10 Watts when the power switch is off!
I found many "power bandits" in my home. These are devices like cellphones, scanners, routers, modems that have those little black power blocks. Most of these devices use 5 to 10 watts with the power switch off. With the Kill-A-Watt, I was able to find the biggest offenders and plug them into a timer that shuts off each night when they are not in use.
If you are truly obsessive about your electrical bill like me, you can make a nice Excel spreadsheet with all your appliances. You can enter Watts, Kilowatt Hours, Price per hour and than figure if replacing a device would pay for the purchase and how long it will take.

Lasko 2521 16" Oscillating Stand Fan
Great price, and this fan does what you want it to do.
Nice feature is the height is ADJUSTABLE up to about 42" high at the top.
It has 3 fan speeds, and the oscillation is easily stoppable at any of the 3. The blades and grill are plastic, not metal, which may make it less durable, BUT also makes it somewhat quieter. Moves a good amount of air, I usually keep it at the lowest speed from a few feet away and am quite comfortable thusly. The only thing I would change if I could is the speed selector should be separate from an on switch, because it goes from OFF to highest to medium to lowest, so i have to click through all the speeds to turn it on and off each time. It would be nice, as I've said with other fans, if the speed control knob were separate from the on/off control, and the speed were essentially dimmable from nothing to max , not just 3 preset positions of low, med, and high.
This fan is an excellent choice for bedside though, because as I've said you have the option of lowering the height of the pole. The more expensive honeywell with remote control lacks the height adjustment feature.
I bought this fan in July 2009 at Target, on sale for $22.50 and it's GREAT! I live in Brooklyn, so lugging the box up and down subways and stairs makes the plastic lightweight construction a BIG plus! Putting it together was a Breeze! 10 min with NO TOOL! (Big selling point)
The flat-black color is very nice, just don't trip over it at night. It moves a lot of air, is adjustable to 45", has 3 speeds (0=off, 1, 2, and 3) and oscillates which you can of course turn switch off. Some might not care for the fact that there is no separate off switch, it's setting zero on the fan speed control, but I didn't mind that at all.
I must say that although the plug claims to have some sort of "patented" surge protection in the plug (who really cares, right?), the cord itself is VERY short. I didn't measure it but it seems comparatively short and was not long enough to stretch across from one outlet to where I needed it. (So get your extension cord out.. which then diminishes the "patented" surge protection on the plug!)
Overall it is money well spent, it's not very loud for sleeping, not too heavy, and at $22.50 was a good price. please note, this model does Not have a remote or timer! I would buy it again and would recommend it to a friend.
Good price and mine works okay but does not move allot of air. Maybe I expected too much but I can barely feel this thing from only five feet away when on oscillate. To be of any use the fan must be very close and on high to be noticed. Everyone has different preferences for breeze strength but I assume that even if you don't like a strong breeze you might want the option, this fan does not deliver that.
I have seen other negitive reviews on this item. Some people are giving this fan a low rating. This is a $25 fan people. If you are looking for a fan that is made of medal and will be full of dirt blowing at you after 1 summer go eles where. This fan is made of plastic and sells for a great price. It is easy to put together and it took maybe 7 min. Personally I don't keep fans for very long. They get dirt and grim in them from a summer of use, then you store them during the winter. I do not want to take them out and take them a part and clean them nor do I want to have a dirty fan blowing at me. I throw them away after they have had their day and replace them the next year or two. A fan like this is perfect to do that with. It's a great price and a nice fan. I have had no problems and I don't notice any noise.

Rite Lite LPL1040BX Wireless 40 LED Umbrella Light
It took me a while to decide which umbrella light to order. I saw this one and it looked good, but the price seemed almost half of some of the others available on Amazon and I took that to mean fewer features or lower quality. I was also torn as to whether I wanted one that had light pointing up as well as down. This key feature (for me) was not indicated very clearly, even on other product web sites, but upon closer scrutiny of the zoomed images, it looked like there were LEDs on the top of the light as well, so I decided to take a chance, plus it was still one of the cheaper models. It turns out my gamble paid off, there are 8 bright, white LEDs on the top of the light that can turned off independently from the downward facing LEDs. Unfortunately, there is no setting to have just the upward facing lights on. They are either off, or on at the same time as the other white LEDs. You cannot have them on when the amber LEDs are being used, so it isn't perfect but I'm pretty happy with it overall. If I really want upward lighting only, I'll flip it upside down.
The dimmer feature is great. After you turn the lights on, you press on the ON switch again and hold, and the light will begin to dim. Release to set the dimming. Next time you turn the light on it will be back to full brightness.
The pole size adjustment was different than I thought, but it works ok. In the pictures you see 4 knurled, rubber grips in the center of the light. To adjust for a larger pole, you keep removing rubber grips until it fits. the piece that the grips slide onto is also rubber, so it will still grip to the pole, but will make the light slightly off-center.
Overall, it seems very well constructed and solid for it's price, however, the plastic used for the main body is very hard and seems like the type that would crack easily if dropped. For an outdoor item, I think it would be better off with a softer plastic that bounce rather than chip or crack. Lastly, I'd recommend getting some rechargeable AA batteries for it. It will last quite a while on 6 new batteries, but if you use it a lot, or accidentally leave it on overnight (doh) you will be putting quite a few batteries in the landfill, plus the cost of the batteries.
I'm very pleased with it and would highly recommend it to anyone needing some extra outdoor light. I'm tempted to get another one and just attach it to a pole next to the grill.
I bought this product hoping that it would fit the bill. It has. Even though it takes 6 AA batteries, it's well worth the price. (Rechargables work well with it, too.) Although it has turned cold here, and we don't go out on the patio so much right now, our power has been knocked out twice so far this season, and this light was a godsend. Much better than candles or lanterns to cook by. =) It was even bright enough to read by without having to turn the little LEDs on the top on at all. Worked well when the tornadoes hit and knocked the power out again. Still the same batteries and have used a total of approximately 18 hours with no signs of the batteries getting weak. I like the on/off switch and the ability to change it from bright white to amber or turn on the two LEDs on the top at the slide of a switch.

Howard Leight 1030110 Sync Noise-Blocking Stereo Earmuff
I like to listen to music when I mow my lawn. I have a variety of products to do this with... I own Motorola DJ style Bluetooth Headphones that work great, sound amazing, and function great... but they don't block enough noise. I have a Jabra Clipster Bluetooth set with great sounding earbuds that fit comfortably under my Peltor earmuffs, but they cut out continuosly when any part of my body blocks the signal, which gets annoying really fast. I have the factory iPhone earbuds which have the built in remote, but don't stay in my ears with my Peltor earmuffs on... so those are out. Finally I took a chance on these with a Iluv ipod/iphone remote, which works great. These block nearly as much noise as my Peltors, and with them on and my music going, I can't even hear my string trimmer idle. The mower makes a bit more noise, but you can barely hear that either. The sound quality is plenty good enough for me, considering I'm using them while operating lawn equipment! Having everything integrated in one device means no more tangled ear buds or pulling off the earmuffs and then removing the earbuds to talk to someone, etc.
First impressions: I decided to try these out in an office environment and was impressed with the quality for the price. They would be really comfy if it weren't for the fact that they're a little small all around. I don't have a large head, but they clamp the sides of my head a little tighter than my Peltor President earmuffs. The headband barely extends enough for the earmuffs to fit on my head, putting extra pressure on the top of my head. My head started to hurt after about 10 minutes from all the pressure on the top and sides.
I found that I was able to eliminate or drastically muffle the noise in my office including coworkers' conversations with earplugs along with these earmuffs and no music. If I turned up the volume just enough to get past the earplugs, I couldn't hear any of the normal office noise such as coworker conversations or doors opening and closing.
If you have a smaller head or just need something really cheap and can put up with a little discomfort, the Sync earmuffs combined with earplugs are an awesome solution to eliminating office noise.
Have used Peltor Alert for hearing protection for years which were several hundred dollars with no 3.5mm jack, then switched to the work tunes for the 3.5mm jack. The Howard Leight blow them both out of the water for around $30? Way more comfortable, way way way better speakers, way lighter with no batteries. I have a medium to large size head and they fit perfect. If you have a melon head they may be too small. I use them primarily for landscaping and trust me you can have a weed eater running wide open next to your ear and still be able to hear your podcast clearly. Get these bad boys you wont be disappointed.

Whirlpool W10295370 FILTER1 Refrigerator Water Filter
I rarely write reviews mainly because of the time and effort but i thought since i rely on them so much now for my own purchasing decisions i thought i should probably start doing some myself. i recently went to the whirlpool sight to order my replacement filter and the website speed was sooo slow, so i thought amazon sells everything these days - why not try them. i was shocked to find the exact filter i needed. the product arrived on time, no issues. i only wish amazon had an 800 number you could call if you ever do have order issues.
I live in Tucson Arizona where the water is cruddy. Very cruddy. I used to have a GE refrigerator with a GE filter system. Filters were about the same price as this one. But having replaced refrigerators and after about a year of using this filter in my Whirlpool refrigerator I can confidently tell you this filter produces a much cleaner taste when drank at room temperature. The temperature where a true taste test should be conducted because even pretty bad water has very little taste when ice cold as you probably have notices. Oh, and replacing this filter in the frig is a snap also.
This part is very easily installed in your refrigerator and lasts exactly as long as it says. The whirlpool fridge I own suggested the filter to be changed every 6 months. It was almost 6 months to the day we received the fridge to when it indicated the filter needed replaced. We got a notice for about 2 weeks prior to this that the filter was nearing time to be replaced, but it finally said to replace it almost right at the 6 month mark. All in all I'm happy with this part and the price I got it for on Amazon.
Price and Shipping were great...but after I replaced the filter, the water tasted so horrible that I had to spit it out. We do not have well water or a community well, so I was a bit scared. I drained a few glasses of the water and it seems ok, but I'm still a bit worried. Does anyone know if you're supposed to drain the water a gallon or so after replacing the filter?

Silverhill 20 Piece Tool Kit for Apple Products
If you are looking for a kit to use sparingly, then this one is perfect. I wanted to crack open my Macbook Pro 17'' and clean out some of the years of dust/etc. that has accumulated under the hood. The kit was perfect and I was able to screw down components and secure everything properly. This was perfect for what I needed it for, but I know that if I needed to use the kit everyday, then it would not be a high enough quality to last/be most efficient.
I bought this set in order to upgrade my computer. The tools are of fair quality and got the job done. The plastic parts are a bit flimsy and there is no tool holder/bag etc. to keep them organized. But, for $10, I was not expecting fine precision everlasting tools any way. I gave them 4 stars because I was able to accomplish the task at hand.
I bought this tool kit at the same time I bought a new optical drive for my '06 era MacBook Pro. There's nothing unique about a size 0 philips screwdriver but what was important was having the right torx driver. The little plastic "crowbars" can also be handy when trying to pry the notebook computer open. I didn't need most the tools included for this particular job, however, it's nice to know I'll have what I need anytime I need to work on one of these MacBook type computers.
I bought this specifically for my Macbook Air 11. It started making sounds (like the body was flexing) whenever I picked it up to move around. I figured I'd get the tool to tighten the screws on the bottom. I read the reviews before I purchased this kit so I thought I'd take the chance. I knew not to "over do it" when tightening the screws b/c of a chance of stripping the pentalobe screwdriver so I was being careful. I managed to tighten 3 of the screws before the screwdriver stripped and then it was useless. The metal used to make this screwdriver is incredibly weak. I have not used any of the other drivers in the package but can only assume that their strength quality is the same. I'd avoid this set of tools if you specifically need the pentalobe screwdriver for the macbook air.

Culligan WHR-140 Replacement Shower Filter Cartridge for WSH-C125, HSH-C135, ISH-100 Shower Units
This shower head filter has made an enormous difference on my skin and hair. I have terrible eczema and extreme dry skin in the winter--I can't tell you how much money I have spent in my life on body wash, moisturizers, etc. But I think all along my biggest problem was the quality of the water. Now I hardly use any moisturizer and can actually use BAR soap...if you have dry skin or eczema, you should know what a coup this is! I can also see a HUGE difference when I take a shower elsewhere, like visiting my mom's--it feels like I have an itchy sweater on when I don't use the filter!
I initially approached this purchase with a lot of skepticism, but I figured at its cheap price it wasn't much to lose. But after reading some of the reviews on this site I was hopeful that there would be some benefit. For me the difference is night and day. We have very chlorinated water where I live, and it has caused bad eczema flare ups. All the lotions and prescription creams couldn't contain the flareups, but this little thing has all but eliminated them. I'm totally shocked how effective it is at removing chlorine. The only negative I would say is that these only seem to last about a month for me until I start seeing symptoms again, but I'll gladly pay $14 a month for healthy skin. Can anyone else comment on how long these last for you?
First off I want to qualify my review. It is based on personal experience with this device. I have over 40 years experience in water treatment but that aside I am basing this on my own personal experience. While I know that some filtration devices may work better in some situations than others, for me this device is actually effective. Chlorine as well as other minerals are factors in causing skin irritation in shower water. Reduction of these can be effective. Personal experience using this device is much more reliable than field testing as a result. Laboratory testing can produce more comprehensive data but is rarely done due to expense. I've seen devices sold to unsuspecting buyers using over the counter spot test kits which don't tell the whole story. If you are satisfied with the results of this device that is the most effective test available. Removing some minerals may actually cause nagative results where other unknown agents are present and unfiltered. I read a review here on Amazon where a spot test was done for chlorine. I repeat such testing is highly ineffective in determining overall water quality. This type of filter device can only be so effective at such a price and in such a small package. That said, this can still be an effective device for some users depending on the water at their location as well as their personal body chemistry. In short if you are feeling better after using this product than you should continue to use it. If you experience no difference than perhaps you should choose another device. The most effective device for total water filtration is of course one tha removes nearly all minerals and chemicals such as reverse osmosis or distillation. Most will find those alternatives cost prohibitive, though.
For my own situation this device works well and although it is not perfect it does provide adaquate results. I recommend trying it to see if you have similar results. To qualify my review however I want to say if you are not satisfied it may not mean the device is defective but just not appropriate for your situation.
